Pants On Fire! A Solution For Your Ingrown Hair Blues...

Gambar
As the summer months transition into autumn, chances are that you’re wearing more jeans, yoga pants, leggings, etc. You may also have noticed an upsurge in the severity of your ingrown hairs along your bikini line and even extending down your inner thighs.   Since I began performing waxing services over 18 years ago, I have long noticed that the frequency of ingrown hairs along the bikini line seems to increase during changes in weather, particularly from warmer into colder months. So many questions about this phenomenon have run through my mind... ...Is it me? ...Is it my waxing technique? If so, why would there be more ingrowns at that time of year? And why would the frequency of my clients' ingrown hairs increase compared to other months? If this really was connected to my waxing technique, why am I noticing more ingrown hairs on the sides of the client's bikini line rather than all over? ... I also had to wonder why the ingrown hairs would also exist in those same outer/sid...

Scarf Attack! How Your Winter Breakouts Can Be Prevented

Gambar
Do you have new jawline and neck breakouts that are bad enough to have you running to your doctor?  Don’t go making an appointment just yet… This winter is cold but the weather keeps fluctuating.  Sometimes it's humid with snow, sometimes bitter cold and dry.  Nothing else bears the brunt of freezing cold like your skin.  But you know what, while everyone is familiar with the drying and chapping effects of frigid winds, very few people take into account how the weather might affect adult acne.  What makes winter different, why would adult acne breakouts be any different than now? The answer is friction. The kind of breakouts that can be caused by friction are painful, red, hard lumps. They often occur in clusters, as you may see right now along your jawline and neck. These "papules" are commonly confused with what some refer to as "cysts" but that's not actually what they are.  Cysts are infected pimples that become so out of control, the inf...

Summer Ingrown Hair Remedies

Gambar
New swimsuit, check.  New sandals, check.  Wide-brimmed hat, check.  Electronic ticket, check.  If only you could check off getting rid of those pesky things on your bikini line, but there they are, staring you right in the face!  Check. Mate. “Why me?!” Some people are more prone to ingrown hairs on the bikini line than others.   The type of ingrowns you get makes a significant difference when it comes to how to get rid of them.   One remedy does not fit all! How do you get ingrown hairs? Ingrown hairs are basically caused by three things:  Skin being pulled while shaving, which causes your hair to point in the wrong direction once you let go of the skin you’re pulling. The hair begins to grow into the skin, or scratches the wall of the follicle as it grows out, so now your body thinks it's an invader.   It reacts by sending the same artillery as when you have an infection; blood for added heat, lymph to bring ammunition to kill the invader...

Demystifying Large Pores in Adult Acne Skin

Gambar
As an Adult Acne Specialist , I get asked all the time how to get rid of large pores - slash - make them smaller - slash - make them disappear, etc. The answer is pretty disappointing (no, they cannot be shrunk), but also kind of fascinating.   There is, however, a way to prevent them from looking bigger than they already are. Large pores are a sign  that your skin is genetically oily. Right at puberty, as your testosterone rises to start your journey to adulthood, so does your skin’s oil production.   As described in a previous post , testosterone is responsible for oil production in your skin.   Now, since before puberty there is so much less oil being produced, your baby pores have no reason to be anything but invisible.    However, as soon as the rising testosterone comes and tells your oil glands to start pumping out more oil, more room needs to be made.   So, the funnel-like mouth of each pore, also known as the Ostium (the very opening of t...
