Summer Ingrown Hair Remedies

Gambar
New swimsuit, check.  New sandals, check.  Wide-brimmed hat, check.  Electronic ticket, check.  If only you could check off getting rid of those pesky things on your bikini line, but there they are, staring you right in the face!  Check. Mate. “Why me?!” Some people are more prone to ingrown hairs on the bikini line than others.   The type of ingrowns you get makes a significant difference when it comes to how to get rid of them.   One remedy does not fit all! How do you get ingrown hairs? Ingrown hairs are basically caused by three things:  Skin being pulled while shaving, which causes your hair to point in the wrong direction once you let go of the skin you’re pulling. The hair begins to grow into the skin, or scratches the wall of the follicle as it grows out, so now your body thinks it's an invader.   It reacts by sending the same artillery as when you have an infection; blood for added heat, lymph to bring ammunition to kill the invader...

What does Comedogenic mean?

Gambar
For those of you with Adult Acne, this is real information you don't want to miss! I’m sure you’ve seen this term before.   Comedogenic.  Let's b reak it down;    comedo = an impaction of varying size containing a  mixture of sebum (fancy name for our skin’s oil) and  dead skin cells, often known as a “blackhead”;   genic = creating.    The scientific term for “blackhead” is Comedo (many, like me, say Comedone).   The start of every acne pimple is a microscopic blackhead, known as a Microcomedone, which is actually in many of our pores but doesn’t always develop enough to lead to a full blown zit.   A comedogenic ingredient makes the process so much worse, it can aggravate an acne condition, or even start one. Depending on how comedogenic something is, the resulting impaction will build up more and more, potentially creating large, dark blackheads, known as Open Comedones.   These are different from the blackheads on our t-zo...

Multi Masking Skincare for Adult Acne

Gambar
Multi-Task?   Multi-Mask ! I will get to the multi-tasking skincare issue, next week.  I have a few things to say on the subject, and it really does deserve special attention.  But before that, I’d like to start off with another kind of multi-tasking, from another angle, which is how to deal with different parts of your face doing different things, even when your skincare routine is as optimal as can be.   This may surprise you - only 10% of the world’s population has truly dry skin, ie, doesn’t produce enough oil to keep it lubricated and healthy, while only 10% of the world’s population produces way too much oil.   Everyone else falls in the spectrum in between.   This is why my clinical instructor in beauty school first introduced us to the world of skincare with this adage:   “There is no such thing as Normal Skin” 80% of us have combination skin, either on the dry side or the oily side.  How many of us have dealt with the confusion of parts...

Adult Acne Tip : You really do need a moisturizer !

Gambar
There are often times when a new client fills out my Eval by Email ® consultation form, and they leave the Nighttime Moisturizer field blank.   It seems many people think they don’t need a moisturizer because their skin is oily, or they’re uncomfortable with the idea because they’ve broken out so much from them in the past. I’d like to shed some light on moisturizers, why they seem to break you out, why you actually do need one, and how to obtain the right one for you. A big part of the problem is they way most moisturizers are made. The basic formulation of every lotion is oil, water and something to bind them together so they won't separate.   One with more oil than water is called a water-in-oil emulsion, while one with more water than oil is called an oil-in-water emulsion.   The first one  is best for skin that doesn't make enough oil to protect itself (which describes the skin of about 10% of the world's population), while the second describes most lotions on ...
